Seguranca Social Direta: activate your account and set your password
Seguranca Social Direta, usually shortened to SSD, is the online portal of the Portuguese social security system at seg-social.pt. It replaces most office visits: contribution history, benefit applications, statements and, for the self-employed, the quarterly income declarations all live there.
What you can do in SSD
Check every contribution your employers have paid, see your employment links, request a contribution status statement, apply for benefits and subsidies, update your contact details and, if you are self-employed, file the quarterly declaration in January, April, July and October. Your NISS is your username for the portal.
How to register
Go to seg-social.pt and choose Registar. Enter your NISS and your date of birth. If Seguranca Social already holds your mobile number or email, a verification code arrives by SMS or email and you finish registration in minutes. If no contact is on file, the code is sent by letter and typically arrives within about 8 business days.
Chave Movel Digital
You can also log in with Chave Movel Digital, the Portuguese digital mobile key, which many residents activate alongside their other registrations. Once either route works, keep your password and contacts current; password recovery depends on the contact details on file.
